Preparations for Annual Parochial Church Meetings

This year our Annual Parochial Church Meetings will be held on Sunday April 29th after our 10am.This is the opportunity both to elect churchwardens and PCC members but also to hold PCC to account.  Nomination forms are now out to propose both churchwardens and PCC members (please remember to ask peoples permission before proposing them!) and annual papers are available today - please do take your copy.

What is the PCC?

The Parochial Church Council to give it’s full title is the governing body of the church and is made up of the clergy and lay members from the congregation. Meetings are held 5 times each year and discuss finance, buildings and the many other matters involved in running the church. It is a rewarding role that provides an insight into how St Mary’s and the wider church is run. The APCM on the 29th April will elect up to 8 members, along with 2 churchwardens, and if you feel that you might like to stand but would appreciate more information, please speak to Malcolm.

Comfort Blankets

The University Hospital are looking for people to crochet or knit comfort blankets for patients in Palliative care. Patients who have had a very lengthy and difficult hospital stay or who are imminently dying are given a donated blanket. Patients and families treasure their comfort blanket because it makes a hospital room more like home. The blanket is theirs to keep and it either goes home with the patient upon hospital discharge or with the family after the patient’s death, as a keepsake. If anyone would like to make a blanket instructions are available both for crochet and knitted blankets.  Completed blankets can be given to Alison Liggins who can pass them onto her neighbour who works at the hospital. Please see Alison if you would like a copy of the instructions. Thank you.
