Blessed
Virgin
Mary

Thought for the week:-

“Mary’s obedience to the will of God is an example to all Christian believers. ”

A warm welcome to you on the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

    Funeral of Geraldine Wakeman
Geraldine Wakeman’s funeral will take place here at St Mary’s on Monday 8th September at 12 noon.

    Recipe Book
Do you have a favourite recipe? As part of the campaign to raise funds for the refurbishing of the church, we are planning to publish a parish recipe book and we need your help if this is to succeed. If you would like to take part in this venture would you please write out your recipe along with a note on why you particularly like it. Contributions should be given to Sally Vigeon, 10 Hall Lane; or by email to owenvig@talktalk.net

    Coffee Club
The next Coffee Club meeting in on Wednesday 17th September at 10.30 am. Price is £1 which includes coffee & biscuits. All welcome.

    Salvation Army Band Concert

Tickets obtainable from Malcolm, Churchwardens or at the door on the night. It would be nice to see as many of St Mary’s congregation and friends as possible to share in an evening of varied music and fellowship, whilst raising much needed funds for the St Mary’s refurbishment fund and the work of the Salvation Army.

    Toys and Books for Crèche
Toys and Books wanted for Crèche - Claire Stanley is in the process of sorting and renewing the contents of the toy box and the bags which are in church. If you have any toys, books, puzzles or colouring books suitable for pre-school children which are complete and in good condition, they would be very gratefully received. Please give them to Claire, Barbara or Malcolm. Thank you.

    Christmas Fayre
Our Christmas Fayre this year will be on Saturday 15th November Thank you to those who have volunteered to form a small team to organise this event. You will be hearing more about the proposed stalls in due course along with items which are needed for them but in the meantime please could you start thinking about whether you could bake or provide a cake for this event and also if you have any Nearly New Clothes (not jumble) that would be suitable for a stall.

    Flog it!
The popular BBC2 antiques show presented by Paul Martin is coming to Coventry. Join the experts and have your antiques and collectibles valued then perhaps sell them at a Flog It auction. Event at Coventry Cathedral on Wednesday 1st October 9.30 - 4 pm.

    Hospital Drinks Rota
For many years now St Mary’s has provided volunteers to serve tea and coffee at the hospital on a Saturday evening. In general the task takes about 3/4 - 1 hour. Over the years our rota has become somewhat depleted and we really could do with some more volunteers. If you might be prepared to help serve drinks once a month at 7pm on a Saturday evening, please have a word either with Sheila Wick or Malcolm. You will need to have a Criminal Records Bureau check undertaken to do this work and attend a fire lecture once a year but other that this there are very few other requirements Blessed
