Newsletter - 26th September 2010

A warm welcome to you on this Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

The flowers in the Lady Chapel are in memory of Mary Phillips.

Spring Cleaning!
The kitchen is in need of a thorough clean and sort out. Jean Hudson has kindly offered to do it but needs some help. If you could possibly spare a couple of hours, could you please have a word with Jean or myself. Thank you, Barbara.

Parking at the Red Lion
We are hoping to negotiate with the Red Lion about parking in the car park but at the moment things are not hopeful. When we have news we will let you know. In the meantime we are low on parking permits but have asked the wardens not to come on a Sunday.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meets next on Wed 29th September at 10.45am. Cost £1. All welcome

Do you pay Income Tax?
If you pay Income Tax and put loose money on the collection plate, please could you consider using a gift aid envelope for your offering. Doing so will significantly increase your giving to the church without you paying a penny more. Envelopes are available on the welcome table or see one of the churchwardens. Thank you. Mervyn.

2nd Prize No. 35 J. Aspden £ 8.50

Moonlight Walk
I finished the walk on Saturday evening at 12.15 (2hrs 15min) which for me 8 mile was excellent. Many thanks and blessings to everyone who has sponsored me so far and remember it is still possible to sponsor me as my money doesn’t have to be sent in till end of October. Glynis

Harvest …………… is next Sunday
Please remember to sort out some cans of food to bring along. We shall be donating the cans this year to Coventry City Mission who tell us their cupboard is bare. As ever, please check the dates on the cans. Last year we had to discard at least 20 cans that were out of date. There will also be a collection on the day for some of the work of Christian Aid as we shall be using some of their material for the service itself.

Bereavement Service
This year our Bereavement Service will be held on Sunday 7th November at 3.30pm. If you would like a name added onto the list please let Malcolm or Stella know or drop a note into Sue in the office. We usually remember folk who have died in the last 2 years automatically.

Christmas Fayre
The Christmas Fayre this year will be held on Saturday 27th November and time will fly past between now and then. Please be thinking of things you may be able to donate for sale on the day. Cakes and home made produce always sells very well. If you are able to help with that, please be thinking of it now! Other things we need are bottles for the bottle stall (it does not have to be alcohol!, prizes for the tombola stall, books, CD’s and DVD’s and really anything you can think of. We cannot cope with electrical equipment however. Stall holders are listed below but also have a word with Alison Liggins if you are unsure.
