Newsletter - 8th August 2010

A warm welcome to you on this Tenth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

We welcome Lesley Johnson today. Lesley will be presiding at the 10am Eucharist as Stella is at St. Lawrences Church, Rowington and Malcolm is away.

Please remember in your prayers at this time Colin & Barbara Gardner. Colin (our organist) has not been too well and Barbara is herself recovering from a recent operation.

Thank you
Thank you to everyone for the support you have offered following my mum’s fall recently. She was due to have an operation to replace a disc between her knee cap and a false knee joint fitted some years ago. Unfortunately the operation has not taken place yet due to problems with her blood - it is however scheduled for Monday all being well. Mum is however hale and hearty if somewhat bored!

Use of Prayer Tree
Some of us use the Prayer Tree in the foyer when we are aware of a person in need. Perhaps more that we realise, writing on a prayer leaf about someone in need, helps them and us. We shouldn’t be shy about our worries and fears. Please continue to use the green prayer leaves. It would help those of us who keep the board up to date, if you could write the date and your name on the reverse side.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meets next on Wed 18th August at 10.45am. Cost £1. All welcome

July Tote
1st Prize No. 35 J. Aspden £25.00
2nd Prize No. 43 D. Greenhalgh £ 8.50

Mission Help needed
During Mission2Grow in September we are hoping that members of the Parish would not mind offering one or two meals to the three Franciscans leading the Mission. The hope is that people would be host to one leader for one meal (or possibly two) of an evening. The team do not want to put people out and would not be expecting anything elaborate. If you could help out with this, please speak to Tony Thistlewood.

Car Pool Help Needed
Members of Mission2Grow transport group may approach you over the next few weeks to ask if you will join a car pool to provide transport around the parish for the three missioners during their stay (September 16th - 26th). It will be much appreciated if you can offer to help.

Your talents required…..
On Saturday 25th September, the last Saturday of Mission2Grow we shall be holding a talent show and need you to take part! Dust off your talent, be it a poem, monologue, musical instrument or dance and tell Tony Thistlewood about it. This is to be a fun event - not too serious please.

Advance Notice
PCC have decided to hold a Christmas Fayre on 27th November. A planning meeting was held recently to begin preparations for this Fayre. They have decided to call this Fayre the ‘Fairy Christmas Extravaganza’ and have prepared a list of proposed stalls. This list is on the noticeboard and you are invited to sign up to run a stall. When you sign up please could you also let one of the committee members know.
