Newsletter - 11th July 2010

A warm welcome to you on this Sixth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Please don’t think Stella is skiving today. She is in Taizé with the Diocesan Pilgrimage and will be next Sunday too!

Lead theft
Sadly we discovered on Tuesday afternoon that some more lead has been stolen from the church roof. This time the lead flashing between the south wall of the nave and the Lady Chapel flat roof was stolen. Fortunately the insurance will cover us this time but it is infuriating that this lead has been stolen again. Also PCC seem to have been proved right by replacing the other lead (which had been stolen in November) with Stainless Steel, as this is still in place. Sadly lead for the flashing is the only realistic alternative.

Thank you……
to those who came and helped with the loft clear out on Tuesday. We managed to complete the task in under one hour and found a myriad of interesting things!

Mission Help needed
During Mission2Grow in September we are hoping that members of the Parish would not mind offering one or two meals to the three Franciscans leading the Mission. The hope is that people would be host to one leader for one meal (or possibly two) of an evening. The team do not want to put people out and would not be expecting anything elaborate. If you could help out with this, please speak to Tony Thistlewood.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meets next on Wednesday 21st July at 10.45 am. Cost £1. All welcome

Junior Church
The Junior Church summer party will be on 18th July 2010. There will be food and games, please bring a spare t-shirt as there may be water games if the weather is good. This will also be the last Junior Church until 5 September, so have a good summer everyone.

Confirmation Groups
We are continuing confirmation groups for adults and younger people this week. Adults are Monday, 8pm at 33 Brookshaw Way and younger folk on Tuesday after school (3.20 ish) in the Octagon.

Your talents required…..
On Saturday 25th September, the last Saturday of Mission2Grow we shall be holding a talent show and need you to take part! Dust off your talent, be it a poem, monologue, musical instrument or dance and tell Tony Thistlewood about it. This is to be a fun event - not too serious please.

Advance Notice
PCC have decided to hold a Christmas Fayre on 27th November. A planning meeting was held last week to begin preparations for this Fayre. They have decided to call this Fayre the ‘Fairy Christmas Extravaganza’ and have prepared a list of proposed stalls. This list is on the noticeboard and you are invited to sign up to run a stall. When you sign up please could you also let one of the committee members know.

Use of Prayer Tree
Some of us use the Prayer Tree in the foyer when we are aware of a person in need. Perhaps more that we realise, writing on a prayer leaf about someone in need, helps them and us. We shouldn’t be shy about our worries and fears. Please continue to use the green prayer leaves. It would help those of us who keep the board up to date, if you could write the date and your name on the reverse side.
