Newsletter - 23rd May 2010

A warm welcome to you on this Pentecost Sunday. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Parachute Jump
Please, if you have sponsored Malcolm or Stella, would you bring the sponsor money in as soon as possible. Our thanks to all who have already paid up and offered their congratulations.

Confirmation Groups
We are continuing confirmation groups for adults and younger people this week. Adults are Monday, 8pm at 33 Brookshaw Way and younger folk on Tuesday after school (3.20 ish) in the Octagon. Please speak to Malcolm or Stella if you would like to join. The confirmation service was last Thursday and all went well.

Wednesday 10.30 Group
During Lent a group met after the 10am service on a Wednesday. We have decided to carry on meeting on alternate Wednesdays. The first meeting was last Wednesday and the next will be on Wednesday 2nd June.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meets next on Wednesday 26th May at 10.45 am. Cost £1. All welcome

Advance Notice
Please note that on Wednesday 16th June, the bishop will be installing all Churchwardens at the Cathedral in a service at which the new Archdeacon Missioner will also be admitted to office. Please could you note the date now so that you may come to support Barbara & John our own wardens. The service will be in the evening, probably starting at 7.30 pm.

Quiet Day - Saturday 19th June
This year’s Quiet Day at Wolvey will be led by Sister Chris who as most of you will know by now is also leading Mission2Grow here in September.
Please let Tony know if you wish to come. The day will last from 10am to 3.30pm.

Loft Clear Out
Following the roof issues some stuff in the loft got damaged. We need a clean out to see what can be recovered for sale at the Christmas Fayre. So I hereby call a working party on July 6th (7-8pm) to sort out the loft. (if many people come the emphasis will be on party and not on work). No physical strength required.

Stellas Ordination
It’s official the Bishop of Warwick will be ordaining me as a Priest on Saturday July 3rd at 4.00 pm in the Cathedral. It would be great to see you all there. If you require a lift there is a list to sign up on.

The morning after the night before
On Sunday 4th July, the day after my ordination I will be celebrating my first Eucharist at 10am (doing the bits Malcolm normally does). This will be a great celebration followed by a family picnic at Coombe Abbey. The idea being - everyone brings a picnic and a chair - we all go to Coombe abbey - and play games. Again a list for those requiring a lift is on the noticeboard.

Your talents required…..
On Saturday 25th September, the last Saturday of Mission2Grow we shall be holding a talent show and need you to take part! Dust off your talent, be it a poem, monologue, musical instrument or dance and tell Tony Thistlewood about it. This is to be a fun event - not too serious please.
