Newsletter - 30th August 2009

A warm welcome to you on this Twelfth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Wednesday Group - 2nd September
Our Wednesday evening discussion group meets again this Wednesday 2nd September 7.30-9pm. Do come along if you can to think more deeply about a subject, but also to enjoy each others company and to hear viewpoints perhaps different from your own.

Diving in Deep
New Bible study group starting on 16th September. Please join us to rummage into the bible and see what gem’s are hidden. What do they mean when they say ……..? Speak to Stella or Lorraine if interested.

Working as a Lay Visitor in hospital
Walsgrave and St. Cross hospitals are looking to recruit Hospital Lay Visitors. The Chaplains view this work as a vital part of the Spiritual & Religious Care that is offered to patients, their families and members of staff. It is a very responsible role, which means that the preparation for this work is not hurried. Therefore potential visitors take part in an eight week training programme alongside the chaplaincy team. If you are interested and wish to know a little more, speak to Sheila Wick or Malcolm.

Beetle Drive - Friday 11th September 2009
Please come and have fun, all ages, with a cream tea being supplied in the admission cost. Bring your own drinks. Admission £5. If you wish to attend please see Val Ekin with your money, or place your name on the notice board and give your money to Val, Jean or Stella. We look forward to seeing you.

Coffee Club - During September the Coffee Club meets on Wednesday 2nd, 16th and 30th at 10.45 am. Cost £1. All Welcome.

Postcards
We have a supply of postcards available (of St Mary’s). If you would like some, they are 25p each.

Church Clock and Sponsored Bike Ride
I will be doing the sponsored bike ride on Saturday 12th September for the Historic Churches Trust and also St. Mary’s - towards having the clock repaired. Unfortunately I wont be in church for the next two Sundays. However if you feel you could sponsor me I have left a form on the notice board opposite the church door. I am going to do some training for the event - riding up Snowdon. Thank you. Barry Walker

Salvation Army Band Concert - 3rd October 2009
The Coventry City Salvation Army Band will be playing at St Mary’s on Saturday 3rd October. The concert will commence at 7.30 pm, tickets are £4 each and can be obtained from the Vicar, Churchwardens or at the door on the evening, the cost includes light refreshments. This year we have a guest soloist, our very own Hannah Tyler. It would be really good to see as many as possible of St Mary’s congregation, family and friends to share in an evening of varied music and fellowship, whilst raising much-needed funds for the St Mary’s refurbishment fund and the work of the Salvation Army.

Bottles
Please start collecting bottles of wine or spirits for our Christmas Fayre. Our apologies that this appeal is early but we need at least 100 bottles. If you can help please bring them along to church and leave them in the office or notify Mel or Alison. Thankyou.

Donations welcome
Any donations towards the cost of fruit and sugar for jam making for our Christmas Fayre would be most appreciated. A pot for donations will be in the foyer on Sunday. Thank you.
