Newsletter - 26th October 2008

A warm welcome to you on this the Last Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Bereavement Service - 2nd November - 3.30 pm
Next Sunday we hold our Annual Bereavement Service. If you would like any person who has died in the past two years remembered please let Malcolm know their name by the end of today. All members of St Mary’s are welcome at the service; if you are able to help either with the tea (by serving cups) or by bringing cakes and/or sandwiches, please have a word with Barbara.

Parish Recipe Book
Very many thanks to all those who have sent us their favourite recipes to be included in the proposed book. We have looked at the accumulated material and there is probably enough to go ahead with the project. The original plan was to have it available in time for the Christmas Fayre, but time is too short to edit and produce a well organised and attractive volume. So we propose that we publish it in the spring instead. So there is still time for more recipes; in particular we would like to have a larger selection of savoury dishes or main courses. At the moment there is a great preponderance of puddings and cakes! We always knew St Mary’s had a sweet tooth. Again, we would remind you that recipes for dishes from [for example] India, or Africa [we have some from West Indies] would be particularly welcome. Any final contributions please deliver to Sally at 10 Hall Lane; or leave with Malcolm or one of the Church Wardens. Or email your offering to owenvig@talktalk.net Thank you for your support.

Coffee Club
The next Coffee Club meeting is on Wednesday October 29th at 10.30 am. Price is £1 which includes coffee & biscuits. All Welcome.

Children’s Society Boxes
The year is up once again for the Children’s Society Box Collection. I would be very grateful if people would bring their boxes to church during the month of October. I have been told by the Doctor that I have to cut down, so by bringing your boxes to church it would help me a lot. Audrey Curtis

Ron Newby
Many of you will have heard of the death of Ron Newby, the founder of the Coventry based charity Global Care. PCC have supported Viorica Musca, a young woman who lived in one of Global Cares support homes in Romania for some years now and felt they would like to make a contribution to the appeal following Ron’s death to support a project on which he was working in Africa. To this end we shall hold a retiring collection over the next two weeks. If you would like to make a contribution to this collection please feel free to do so.

Bishops’ Certificate in Discipleship
We are fortunate to be the host for a six week course ‘Jesus and the Gospels’ being led by Richard Cooke here at St Mary’s after Christmas. This course will form one of the modules of the Bishops’ Certificate in Discipleship which you received details of a couple of months ago. Book on-line on the Diocesan web Site or let me know if you want to take part. Dates are: 27th Jan, 3rd Feb, 10th Feb, 24th Mar, 31st Mar and 7th April.
