Newsletter - 31st August 2008

A warm welcome to you on this the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

News on Laura Ekin
You will be pleased to hear that Laura Ekin’s skin grafts (following her accident in the shower) have gone quite well. Val has kept me in touch and I am happy to give fuller details if you would like. Val does intend to stay for some time with Laura though. Malcolm

Funeral of Geraldine Wakeman
Geraldine Wakeman’s funeral will take place here at St Mary’s on Monday 8th September at 12 noon.

Parking
When I left church a few weeks ago I found that I had a warning notice, (fortunately not a parking ticket! ) from the traffic wardens stuck on my windscreen. I managed to have a word with the wardens and they are going to be visiting this area more frequently, so please if you are going to park in Hall Lane, make sure that you have a current permit on display. These are available from the church office. Barbara.

Recipe Book
Do you have a favourite recipe? As part of the campaign to raise funds for the refurbishing of the church, we are planning to publish a parish recipe book and we need your help if this is to succeed. If you would like to take part in this venture would you please write out your recipe along with a note on why you particularly like it. Contributions should be given to Sally Vigeon, 10 Hall Lane; or by email to owenvig@talktalk.net

Mission notice board
Please see the mission notice board for the latest updates, including news from Vio and Global Care's Home of Hope, Romania; also Yeldall and Myton Coventry Hospice. Vio has sent us a photo - how grown-up she looks.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meetings in September are on Wednesday 3rd and 17th at 10.30 am. Price is £1 which includes coffee & biscuits. All welcome.

Toys and Books for Crèche
Toys and Books wanted for Crèche - Claire Stanley is in the process of sorting and renewing the contents of the toy box and the bags which are in church. If you have any toys, books, puzzles or colouring books suitable for pre-school children which are complete and in good condition, they would be very gratefully received. Please give them to Claire, Barbara or Malcolm. Thank you.

Christmas Fayre
Our Christmas Fayre this year will be on Saturday 15th November Thank you to those who have volunteered to form a small team to organise this event. You will be hearing more about the proposed stalls in due course along with items which are needed for them but in the meantime please could you start thinking about whether you could bake or provide a cake for this event and also if you have any Nearly New Clothes (not jumble) that would be suitable for a stall.
