Newsletter - 4th November 2007

A warm welcome to you on this All Saints Sunday. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Verger
After many years of loyal service as Verger, Leo has decided it is time to lay down this particular mantle. If you would be interested in applying for the post of Verger please have a word with Malcolm, Barbara or John before Remembrance Sunday (11th November). Principal duties are to prepare the church for weddings and funerals, to welcome the mourners and guests, and to prepare the church for the next service. It would also be extremely helpful if any potential verger would sweep the path both for Sundays and as necessary - particularly at this time of year - as we do receive complaints from members of our own congregation about the leaf fall. The verger is paid for each wedding and funeral he or she attends. (currently £20 a service).

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meets next on Wednesday 14th and 28th November at 10.45 am. All Welcome.
£50 has just been donated to the Children’s Society from the coffee club and £50 to the church refurbishment fund.
The coffee morning on 28th November is to raise money for Coventry Myton Hospice and as well as the usual coffee there will be other stalls such as cakes, bric a brac, knitted toys etc. Please do support this event.

Bill Hanna’s Funeral
Bill Hanna’s funeral has been arranged for Thursday 8th November here at 11.30 am.
Christmas Services

PCC agreed to the usual pattern of services at Christmas this year namely

7 pm Carols and Communion on Christmas Eve
8 am Holy Communion on Christmas Day
10 am Parish Communion on Christmas Day

The Christingle will be held at Walsgrave Baptist Church and our annual toy service will be on Sunday 2nd December.

Church Centre Cleaning
PCC have decided that we can no longer afford to pay to have the Church Centre cleaned and have asked two of the church groups who use the centre to help with the cleaning week by week. Whilst they are happy to do this one job remains, the regular (weekly) cleaning of the internal glass doors and finger plates. If anyone would be willing to help with this, would they please speak to Malcolm, Barbara or John please.

Alan Robinson has also said that he would like to retire from organising both the coffee and cleaning rotas. These rotas have several months to go before they need to be done again but if anyone would be willing to take this on it would be very helpful. Also, if anyone would be happy to go onto a new rota please speak to Malcolm, Barbara or John.

Christmas Tree Festival
Risen Christ, Wyken will be holding a Christmas Tree Festival on the weekend of 8th December to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the new church. If you would be interested in decorating a 5 ft artificial tree (which you have to supply - battery lights only), please contact Molly Randell, 11 Curtis Road to confirm your display. There is a £5 entry fee.
On Sunday 9th December at 3 pm there will be an Advent Songs of Praise to which all are invited.
