Newsletter - 8th July 2007

A warm welcome to you on this the Fifth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

This Sunday at 10am Malcolm is at St John the Divine Willenhall as a guest preacher in their 50th Anniversary celebrations.

Pennie Hartopp
A couple of weeks ago we announced a move for Pennie Hartopp and her husband John. Pennie will take up an appointment as Team Vicar of St Mark’s, Godalming (in Surrey). The dates have yet to be finalised but it is likely that her licensing date will be in mid October. Later on, when we know dates and times we shall organise transport to support Pennie at the licensing and, of course, be organising a farewell here.

Christian Aid Quiz
I have a few copies remaining of a quiz to raise money for Christian Aids work in Mali. If you would like a copy please see Malcolm - copies are 50p a time - the quiz itself looks fairly easy and is a good way to raise money for Christian Aid.

The Children’s Society Stand By Me Box Challenge
An appeal for more box holders. Please take a house-box and make a difference to the lives of children living away from home. Audrey Curtis, Box co-ordinator.

Working as a Lay Visitor in Hospital
Are you interested in the role of being a Lay Visitor at either Walsgrave or St Cross hospitals? Both Hospitals are recruiting members to join their Hospital Lay teams. Lay Visitors support the Chaplaincy team. It is a also a very responsible role, bringing you into close contact with people at very vulnerable times in their lives.
Training is given but in the first instance you need to speak to Malcolm if you are interested or require more information as names have to be recommended through him.
