Newsletter - 8th October 2006

A warm welcome to you on this Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Services today
At 10 am today we shall have a slightly different service to celebrate St Francis, hence the booklet with the hymns and alternative responses.

Children’s Society Boxes
Once again it is time for the Children’s Society Boxes to be collected and counted. I would be most grateful if boxes can be brought to church throughout the month of October. Many thanks. Please note that I have recently moved address. Audrey Curtis

Thank you
Thank you to everyone who has responded to our recent letter about finance by increasing their giving; we are most appreciative. However if you had thought ‘I’ll do that later’ and have then forgotten, please do try to remember to contact the bank this week or start putting a little extra in the envelope nest week.

Coventry Fun Run
Thank you to everyone who sponsored me on the Coventry Fun Run. I raised £200 which was presented to the Epilepsy Action Group on Thursday 28th September at their AGM. Again thank you. Christopher Osselton.

Scout Appeal
Beavers and Cubs are collecting old mobile phones, PDA’s and Used printer cartridges for their Scout Appeal. If you have any, or know where they may be found , bring them in or speak to Alison Liggins.

Coffee Club
The Coffee Club meets next on Wednesday 18th October at 10.45 am. All welcome.

Advance Notice: There is to be a special Christmas Coffee morning on Wednesday 29th November in aid of Coventry Myton Hospice. On this day there will be stalls, raffle, cakes etc as well as the normal coffee morning. Gwen and Audrey

Christmas Fayre
This year the Christmas Fayre will be held on Saturday 18th November. It is the first fundraising project of the newly formed Fundraising Group and we should be extremely grateful for your help in supplying items for the stalls (please see separate flier for what is needed.)
Last year’s Fayre raised roughly £1,800. It would be good to raise more this year!!!!!

Remembrance Sunday
The 34th Coventry (Walsgrave) Scout Troop are preparing a tribute to the men of Walsgrave who lost their lives in the Second World War. If anyone has photographs or other archive material relating to Stanley Beaufoy, Leonard Brown, Roland Bush, Bernard Gardener, Samuel Goff, David Harley, Joseph Marsh, Edward Symcox, or Donald Ward could you please contact Bill Hanna (07768 427363) or bring it into Church. Any material will be copied and returned safely.. This tribute will add on to that prepared last year to remember the men of Walsgrave who died in the First World War.

Praise and Worship Evening at the Hospital
We are all invited to a service at the Hospital Faith Centre on 17th October 7.30pm as a Christian celebration of the Chaplaincy.
