Newsletter - 4th June 2006

A warm welcome to you on this Pentecost Sunday.. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the Octagon for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Dark Peak Marathon Challenge
Scout Leader Bill Hanna is taking 16 work colleagues on a 26 mile 385 yard hike in the Peak District on 12th June. This strenuous event is to raise money for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support. If you would like to support Bill with a small donation there is a collection bucket in the Octagon. Thank you for your support. Bill Hanna

Church Hall
There are a variety of small and large jobs that need doing at the Church Hall in Farber Road. I am hoping that we can get a small working party together to tackle some of the jobs (including taking some bits of broken furniture to the tip - and some gardening work)If you would be willing to give a hand on Saturday morning 17 June, please have a word with Malcolm.

Red Lion Parking
I understand that several people had some difficulty parking in the Red Lion Car Park on a Sunday because the entrances were blocked . I have spoken to the duty manager this week who has explained the problems to me. Essentially the problem is on weekdays when people for the hospital park in the Red Lion Car Park. To deter this they are putting barriers in place each night. If you find such a barrier on a Sunday morning, the pub management are happy for you to park in the car park and ask only that you replace the barriers. We shall try to organise a laminated sticker for you to put in your windscreen over the next few weeks but as I say it is acceptable to park there on Sunday mornings.
