Newsletter - 28th August 2005

A warm welcome to you on this Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the office for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

The flowers in the Lady Chapel this week are in memory of Kath Fear.

Thankyou’s
I would like to thank everyone at St Mary’s for their visits, get well cards and prayers during my recent stay in Hospital. I seem to have recovered quite well from the operation and am making slow but steady progress. Reg Amos

A big thankyou for the prayers and kind wishes on my heart surgery. I am told the operation on my heart was a success. I am sure the prayers and good wishes played a big part. The doctors and staff tell me I am doing well. Now it is up to me to rest and do as I am told (difficult). May Wooff

Also to everyone who contributed to the Flower Fund at Sylvia Bandy’s funeral. £274.80 was contributed towards flowers which we shall use over the weeks and certainly at the Bereavement Service and Christmas. We shall be burying Sylvia’s ashes immediately after this morning’s 10am service.

July Tote
1st Prize No. 13 Eve Stuart £28.00
2nd Prize No. 18 K. Sheffield £ 9.00

Walsgrave Fun Day
My grateful thanks to all who helped us at the Fun Day last Saturday. This was the Community Group’s first attempt at organising an event, and we certainly couldn’t have covered all the games and stalls without you giving up your Saturday R & R time to help!! Many Thanks. Jean Hudson

Sponsored Cycle Ride or Walk
As usual at this time of year, there is an opportunity to support the Historic Churches Trust and raise funds for St Mary’s by being sponsored to visit local churches.
The event is on Saturday, September 10th. If you would like further information, sponsor forms, etc., please see Tony Thistlewood.

Concert by the The Salvation Army Band - Saturday 10th September
There is to be a concert by the Coventry City Band of the Salvation Army on Saturday 10th September at 7pm. Admission £4 including refreshments. The proceeds of the evening will be shared equally between the Salvation Army Rebuilding Fund and St. Mary’s, refurbishment fund. Tickets available in advance from Church Wardens, Gary Croshaw or pay at the door on the evening. All those who have attended previous concerts have thoroughly enjoyed the evenings and would like as many as possible to share an evening of good varied music and at the same time support the two very worthy causes.

Crèche
We are in the fortunate position of having a number of under 4’s in our congregation at present. When we were in a similar position a few years ago, the Crèche was set up in the office for the under 4’s with a leader and a helper and the children came into the service at the Peace. These children have now moved onto Junior Church and there has been little demand for the crèche facility. It would appear that it would be useful to reintroduce this, so if you think that it would be right for your child and or would like to help with its running, please see Malcolm, Barbara or Sheila. All those who assist with the care of children would have to be CRB approved, but we can help you with this process.

Coffee Club
Coffee Club dates from September to Christmas are as follows:- September 7th & 21st, October 5th and 19th, November 2nd, 16th and 30th and December 14th. All on Wednesday mornings at 10.45 am. All are welcome. Edna and Alan Robinson

Reminder
If you are down for a duty during the service, could you please arrive at least five minutes before the service begins. This will help the Churchwardens who have to arrange replacements in case of absence.
