Newsletter - 31st July 2005

A warm welcome to you on this Tenth Sunday after Trinity. Please do join us after the service to share in a cup of tea or coffee. All ages are welcome at St. Mary’s, children included. There is also a crèche in the office for the very young if you need it. If this is your first time with us, please do fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter, so that we can keep in touch with you. St Mary’s is fitted with a hearing loop system. Members of the congregation who have a hearing aid with a ‘T’ switch will find that they can hear better when it is switched to ‘T’.

Today whilst Malcolm and family are away, we welcome Neil Tipple who will be presiding at the 8am service and Owen Vigeon at the 10am service, please remember them both in your prayers this morning. Please also remember in your prayers today Joshua Rose, Leon Tyrrell and Damian Tyrrell who are to be baptised this afternoon. We also pray for their parents and God parents.

Thank you!!!
Bill and Chris Moreton and family would like to say a big “Thankyou!!” to their many friends at St Mary’s for their support and prayers during Bill’s two month stay in hospital with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Bill came home on 7th June and is continuing to make good progress towards what is expected to be a full recovery, although this may take many months to achieve. He is now able to walk with a stick and is threatening to put in an appearance at St Mary’s in the near future! Kind regards, Bill and Chris

Jam Jars
I need your help please! I have started making preserves for our Christmas Fayre but I need jam jars. I need large and small jars with a lid diameter of 63mm (2½ inches in old money!) I have new lids for all jars this year but only in this one size. Also, if you plan to make jam, etc for the stall, can you please let me know and I will give you a supply of lids. I would be very grateful for any help you can give. Thank you very much. Jean Hudson

Coffee Club
The meetings in August of the coffee club are as follows:- 10th and 24th August all at 10.45 am. All are welcome. Edna and Alan Robinson
Ministry at Walsgrave, Potters Green and Wood End
You may remember from the Deanery Synod Report at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting that the deanery has to make plans to cut back numbers of ordained staff throughout the deanery. To date Charlotte Gale has been appointed Priest-in-Charge at St Philips, Potter Green for a period of three years. When her licence expires it is likely that ministry will be shared in some way between the three parishes of St Mary’s, St Philip’s and St Chad’s. Particularly this means that St Philip’s will not be left without clergy cover. How this will be done we do not know and will have to be determined by the bishop in consultation with PCC’s. You may also like to know that David Pettifor will not be replaced at Holy Cross, Wyken when he retires in 2006/7

Envelopes, Gift Aid and Standing Orders
St Mary’s relies upon regular financial giving to keep afloat. There are various ways in which you can plan your giving to St Mary’s. The easiest way is by Standing Order direct from your bank to ours. Alternatively we can provide you with envelopes (one for each week of the year) which encourages you to give each week. If you are not here one week you save up the envelope until the next time you come. If you are not in either of these schemes please have a word with Jean Hudson, our planned giving officer who will be happy to give you more details. Finally, if you pay income tax, for one signature on a piece of paper we can reclaim the tax you have already paid on your gift. So for every £5 we can reclaim from the tax man another £1.40. Again speak to Jean if you would like to know more.

Confirmation Classes (adults and children)
I am looking to running separate classes for adults and children wanting to be confirmed. The confirmation will be at the Cathedral in November but I would like to assess now how many candidates we are likely to be taking. Please have a word with me as soon as possible if you would like to be confirmed. (or even if you are unsure about what this means).
