Making Poverty History struck a chord with Lindsay Taylor and Wayne Hunt who were planning to celebrate their wedding on 2nd July 2005.

Lindsay and Wayne who have been regular members of the congregation at St Mary’s for 18 months, came to a service in May which highlighted the needs of the poor in Africa and the Make Poverty History campaign. As they were planning to marry on 2nd July they decided to encourage each of their guests to wear a white Make Poverty History wristband.

The picture shows how successful they were. The church had been shrouded with a white band for part of the day; sadly the wind and rain which came in the morning spoiled the work of the willing team, causing damage before the wedding began, but everyone appreciated their effort.

The sale of white wristbands made £95 on the day which was contributed to the campaign.
