34th Coventry Scout Troop Report It has been avery mixed year for the Scout Troop. The year started with me and Colin assisting Bill in the Leadership side of theScout Troop. Then in October came the sad news of Bill’s death. He will be greatly missed by all the Leaders and Scouts for his great knowledge and enthusiasm in anything to do with Scouting. On the Scouting side we have had a very successful year. The Troop is still running with around 12 Scouts. Due to age, 3 Scouts have had to leave the Troop, with 2 moving on to the Explorer section. These in turn have been replaced by Cubs moving up to the Scout Troop. We have a mixed Troop and we try to provide an exciting and interesting programme. By doing this the Troop has again been very successful in the District activities that we have taken part in: Winners for the second year of SMIJ (Scout Mini Incident Journey) Winners again of
the District Water Weekend Raft Race. (They have to construct their own Winners of the District 5-a-side Football competition We are also continuing with the badge work. This helps the Scouts to learn many new skills and improve on existing ones. For the first time in quite a few years we have our first Gold Chief Scout Challenge Award being presented to one of our Scouts and in the next 2 months 2 more Scouts will have achieved this award. This Award is the highest Award achievable in the Scout section so our congratulations to all 3 Scouts for their hard work and dedication. All the Scouts are a pleasure for Colin and me to work with. Always willing to have a go at anything we throw at them, from cooking pancakes over a tea light to constructing full size catapults firing water balloons! We hope that by continuing to offer this varied programme the Scouts will continue to enjoy themselves. Gaynor Preston For more information about Scouts, please contact
